"Teenagers read millions of books every year. They read for entertainment and for education. They read because of school assignments and pop culture fads.
And there are millions of teens who read because they are sad and lonely and enraged. They read because they live in an often-terrible world. They read because they believe, despite the callow protestations of certain adults, that books-especially the dark and dangerous ones-will save them."

My name is Makenzie Schroeder and I am a senior studying Special Education at Michigan State University. I have created this website as a resource for fellow prospective educators, teachers, students, readers, and anyone else who has an interest in young adult literature. This website's purpose is to highlight the dire necessity of young adult literature that focuses on the topic of adolescent depression. Included in the website are reasons why this literature is so important, some examples of young adult literature that incorporates the topic of depression, my personal critical reviews of this literature, scholarly reviews, visitor suggestions, and also resources for those who know someone dealing with depression or is currently battling depression themselves. Thank you for taking the time to explore this website and I hope that you find it informative and useful!
